Joan Hessayon award

That winning moment!

The RNA’s Summer party was held in the very grand Library of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers on the 18th May and I arrived, rather damp, in the middle of a heavy shower of rain. Katie Fforde and Jan Jones greeted me and I went on to meet a crowd of other friendly writers.

My editor, Lucy Icke and a several of her colleagues from Piatkus soon arrived and it was a lovely opportunity to talk to others who share my passion for writing. Wine flowed freely and there were delicious canapes.

Katie gave a speech and a presentation was made to all the contenders for the Joan Hessayon award. Then the winner was announced. I was absolutely thrilled to receive the award and overwhelmed by all the congratulations. My feet haven’t touched the ground since!

My thanks go to Dr Hessayon who, sadly, was unable to be present at the party and also to the readers of the New Writers’ scheme who invest so much of their time in helping aspiring novelists. A wonderful and, especially for me, very exciting evening.

Thanks to mlr photo for the pictures.
