The Apothecary’s Daughter Arrives!

It’s almost impossible to imagine my delight when a heavy package arrived for me just now. It contained a hardback and a trade paperback, fresh from the printers, of The Apothecary’s Daughter.

I hold the book in my trembling hand and run the tips of my fingers over the silky-smooth paper jacket wrapped around the scarlet and gold hard back inside. It smells of new paper and printing ink and evokes the pleasure I’ve received over a life time of book buying. But this book is my book, the product of countless hours of day dreaming, scribbling in notebooks, researching in libraries and sitting at the laptop in the small hours.

I know the contents of the story inside out. I can open the manuscript at any page and know immediately what happens next but this heavy book in my hand is the story made real. And I’m thrilled.
